Biography

We have lived in Fallbrook for over 30 years and raised our two children in Fallbrook, choosing Fallbrook because of the country lifestyle and the excellent schools. Both of our children attended Fallbrook schools from K through 12 grade and received an excellent education. Our daughter is currently a first grade teacher at La Paloma Elementary School and our son is a videographer with a full-length film, Unstoppable, scheduled to release in Spring 2019. I have been married to my husband Dr. Robert Lieber for 40 years. Robert is a Clinical Psychologist.

A teacher for many years, I have been around educators all my life. My grandmother was a school teacher in Oklahoma and my mother was on the school board in Phoenix, AZ before running for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. I has taught children and adults and am currently a part time Instructor at San Diego Community College District and Palomar College. Prior to teaching I was a Vice President at Sunrise Company in Palm Desert, CA. Sunrise was one of the ten largest development firms in California. I was responsible for a budget of over a million dollars.

I have been active politically most of my life; as a volunteer in my mother’s campaigns and as an elected official in high school, university, and most recently on the San Diego Community College District’s Academic Senate.  I received my BA in Communications from USC in Los Angeles. Once my children finished college I went back to school and received a Masters in Education/Educational Administration from Concordia University, Irvine.

My volunteer work include Brother Benno's in Oceanside and the State Academic Senate for California Community College Part-Time Committee

Questions & Answers

Questions from The League of Women Voters North County San Diego (4)

What are the pressing problems of this school district, in your opinion, and what experience do you bring to the Board that will help address these problems?
Answer from Caron Lieber:
Class size. Textbook selection, chrome books, substitute pay
What is your view of charter schools?
Answer from Caron Lieber:
I don't think charger schools over all serve all students. I see the advantage of charter school attached to a school district, but I am against charter schools that are run for profit and don't have the transparency or oversite of public school.

Should the district curb its school choice initiatives (for students who are not in charter schools), so that more students stay in their neighborhood schools? Why or why not?
Answer from Caron Lieber:

Yes, students should on the most part stay in their neighborhood school. There are a few exceptions.

Are there school discipline strategies or behavioral support programs that you find appealing alternatives to exclusionary or punitive discipline? If so, which ones, and why?
Answer from Caron Lieber:

Yes, there are many behavioral support programs that currenlty are used effectly in our emementary schools.
