Questions & Answers

Questions from KPBS and the League of Women Voters San Diego (3)

Do you support increasing housing density in National City? What other options might there be for increasing the City's supply of affordable housing?
Answer from Ditas Delossantos Yamane:

Yes I do support increasing the housing density. We have to work with developers & invite them to invest & build in our city. The city's general plan included density, housing & traffic elements. I will address having a business friendly process in doing business with the city.

Do you advocate any changes to National City's current policies regarding recreational and medical cannabis businesses? Please explain.
Answer from Ditas Delossantos Yamane:

Yes, I will be careful and very diligent in advocating for Medical Cannabis Policies. I will invite professional experts & NCPD to create a program that will be beneficial for the community who benefits from Medical Cannabis.

Do you believe that the National City Community & Police Relations Commission has adequate independence, authority, and resources to provide effective civilian review when there are allegations of officer misconduct? What changes, if any, do you think should be made?
Answer from Ditas Delossantos Yamane:

I believe CPRC has an independent civilian review process but lacking in resources due to budgetary restraints. CPRC should be allocated a budget to be able to carry out an independent review process that is just and fair.

Questions from KPBS (2)

Are you in favor of the National City residential rent control ordinance, Measure W, that is on the November 2018 ballot? Why or why not?
Answer from Ditas Delossantos Yamane:

I vote No on Measure W. Rent control is not the answer, this will hurt the very people that we need to help, we should address Supply & Demand and build more affordable housing. Measure W deters economic development.

Do you support any specific projects to promote economic activity in National City? If so, who are the proponents of these plans, and why do think that the City should invest time and resources in them?
Answer from Ditas Delossantos Yamane:

As a leader in the business community, I promote community economic development. I supported projects & programs that provided investment & reinvestment in our community to have a better quality of life.

As a former chamber president I promote a better business process for investors to build and businesses to do business in our city. The city must invest time & funding for this effort to create jobs, build affordable housing and a safe environment for a successful community.
