It is my pleasure to serve as your representative on the Desert Community College District Board of Trustees. The District sets the policies and vision for College of the Desert (COD). As Chair of the Board, I am proud to state that COD is the economic generator for the Coachella Valley, the fastest growing community college in California, nationally recognized for educational excellence, and has held its largest graduating class three years in a row.
COD finances have never been better. Through our EDGE and plEDGE programs, high school graduates receive free tuition; and for the first time ever, our students will receive free transportation on SunLine buses to get to school, work and home.
Thanks to Measure B and Measure CC, COD will expand with new facilities and programs in the East and West Valley where our students live and work.
In my district, we have created a Mecca/Thermal Campus offering academic classes, high-speed internet computer labs, science labs and a research-class Observatory. As a partner in a small family farm since 1975, I understand the importance of creating the Roadrunner Farms Project at the Mecca/Thermal Campus that will offer Agricultural Business programs.
Great work has been accomplished. The success of our students and their families is paramount to me, and therefore, I ask for your vote.
