Biography

Jacque was born and raised in the Grand Boulevard circle of Corona. She grew up in a working class household with her three siblings and parents who immigrated from Jalisco, Mexico in pursuit of the American Dream. They chose to set roots in Corona because they fell in love with the community.

Jacque went to school in the award-winning CNUSD school district and earned scholarships from the local Women’s Improvement Club, Corona-Norco Teacher’s Association, and Circle City Kiwanis to attend the University of California, San Diego where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Jacque further pursued her passion for public service by earning a Masters degree in Public Policy from UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.

Jacque began working with the community to drive civic engagement in 2008. Since then, she has led countywide voter registration efforts, personally mentored over eighty local youth, created dozens of informational community forums with experts on issues relevant to our community, and has earned a reputation as an effective and collaborative leader.

In 2016, Jacque managed the citizen-led effort to update the way we vote for our city council members to ensure every Coronan has a councilmember in their neighborhood, who lives the issues they do every day. Jacque saw this initiative from start to finish, working collaboratively with the city to inform and engage the community every step of the way.

Today, Jacque is a healthcare advocate with Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. As a nonprofit manager, she works every day to promote health equity by bridging the gap between our community and government to ensure everyone has access to basic preventive and reproductive healthcare.

Jacque has called Corona home her entire life, and lives in District 1 with her husband, Zach, and their labrador retriever, Xiao Mei. As a positive leader who believes in the value of hard work, education, and civic engagement, Jacque has been a lifelong champion for our community and believes in Corona’s future.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I’m running for City Council because I believe in Corona – the city that has always believed in me.

If elected, I will ensure our police officers and firefighters have the resources they need to keep us safe, will invest in our children and families, and will help our local businesses thrive, bringing more good high wage jobs to our city.

I am a proud graduate of Corona’s public schools, and went on to receive my bachelor’s degree from UC San Diego and my master’s degree in public policy from UCLA. No matter where life took me, I have always known that Corona is where I want to live, work and raise my family.

Keeping our families and neighborhoods safe should be local government’s top priority. I am grateful for the tremendous work our public safety community does, and will fight to provide them with the resources to continue keeping us safe.

As the daughter of working class parents who did not have the opportunity to receive higher education, I understand just how critical it is for our children to have a quality education along with after-school programs and sports activities for youth. That’s why I’ll work to protect the quality of our local public schools, which are some of the best in the state, and advocate for youth programs that keep kids out of trouble and help them thrive.

Our local businesses are the backbone of our economic prosperity. We must ensure that they have the support they need to succeed and expand.  We also need to attract new and innovative high wage employers to our city.

I was raised in the Grand Circle and have called Corona my home my entire life. My parents instilled in me a strong sense of giving back to the community that gave us so much. I spent many weekends volunteering at the library, organizing with schoolmates to collect items for families in need, and cleaning up Corona’s sidewalks, streets and parks through “Corona Beautiful,” and I have always been inspired by our community’s ability to come together toward a common purpose.  These are the values that will guide me as your councilmember.

Corona is a community that is proud of where it has come from, and a community that has boundless optimism for its future. I am proud to say that I live here, and believe in our future. I would be honored to have your vote.
