Biography

Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez is the current Mayor of the City of Moreno Valley, 21st largest city of 206,000 residents. He was selected as Mayor on 12/1/2015 and sworn in on 12/17/2015 as the youngest Mayor.

The Mayor also serves as a Board of Director to the Renu Hope Foundation and the US Selective Service System.

Mayor Gutierrez grew up with working class parents in Moreno Valley. Dr. Gutierrez has lived for the past 24+ years in Moreno Valley. The Mayor is a proud graduate and product of MVUSD schools, Armada Elementary, Landmark Middle, and Valley View High School. He graduated with AA/AS degrees from Moreno Valley College, and then graduated from California Baptist University with a Bachelors degree. He then attended Chapman University College and completed teaching credentials and then a Masters degree from American Intercontinental University. He decided to continue his education in the area of students with disabilities. In May 2013, Mayor Gutierrez completed his Doctorate degree by the age of 27. Recently, he completed the New Mayors and Council Members' Academy; he is an alumnus of USC's School of Price program in Executive Education in Public Policy and the Marshall School of Business Strategic Analysis certificate program.

Mayor Gutierrez has over 20 years of combined teaching experiences. The Mayor has been a Special Education Resource Specialist Teacher for the past 13 school years with Moreno Valley Unified School District. Dr. Gutierrez has also taught with Moreno Valley College as an adjunct Reading professor for the past 9 years.

In Moreno Valley, he successfully owned Berrybean Café, coffee house and sandwich bar. He has been an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and a current member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Gutierrez enjoys riding his bike, spending time with his family and church as well as his two dogs, a chocolate Labrador and Beagle.
