Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Work to make the DPCCC a more effective organization in its basic job to elect Democrats up and down the ballot
  • Coordinate the DPCCC activities with those of the Democrats of Rossmoor Club of which I am a board member and Past President
  • Work to help give local Democratic Clubs a vote on some measures at the DPCCC meetings and improve the links between these organizations

Actividades comunitarias

Immediate Past President, board member and Membership Co-Chair , Democrats of Rossmoor (2013–current)

I received a B.A. in history form Tufts University and an M.A. in government from Boston University and then taught middle school history for a few years before starting my family of four children. Returning to the workforce while my children were still young, I retrained at my local community college.  to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist.  After working in this field for several years, I returned to the community college as a full time instructor in the Respiratory Therapy progam. In this position I was able to mentor and train many young single moms, displaced homemakers and recently unemployed for well paying and in demand jobs in health care. I retired from this position in 2004 and in 2005 moved to the retirement community of Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, California.  Here I became politically active in the 2012 Obama campaign and in 2013  assumed a two year Presidency of the 500 member democratic club, Democrats of Rossmoor.  As immediate Past President and Membership Co-Chair, I remain an active board member of this club. I am also its representative to the DPCCC Club's Council.  I have also been an advocate for Progressive causes as a regular writer for the Progressive View column in the Rossmoor News and as founder and organizer of the Democrats of Rossmoor Book Club.

Filosofía política

I am basically a Progressive Democrat and believe that a government should support policies which provide an equal opportunity for all  of its citizens.  There needs to be robust safety net for those who need it and good public education from pre-school through college should be available to all. Jobs need to be availabe to everyone  who wants one and anyone who works hard all day deserves to earn enough to live decently.  Healthcare is a right and should be available to all.   Because I was a working mother I support policies that help women to achieve inthe workforce--affordable childcare, paid maternity and familly leave, and of course equal pay for equal work.  I believe in the free enterprize system, but I believe that the government need to support policies that  prevent great the great  inequalities in wealth and opportunity which seem to be part of today's America.  Of course, I believe that we should encourage everyone to particpate in the political process and support our great Democracy.

Why I am running for a seat on the DPCCC

A brief history of my recent work for Democratic causes

The DPCCC is the governing body for Democrats in Contra Costa County.  It has the jobs of educating and  engaging voters, building a strong bench of Democratic candidates and winning elections.  However, this body has not been functioning as effectively as it might.  I am actually running for a seat on the DPCCC along with a slate of five other candidates who were asked to run by our Regional Director in the hopes of bringing new life to the committee.  I am going to describe a little bit about the work I have done for Democratic causes because I hope it will explain what skills I might bring to the DPCCC

In 2012 I wanted to do something to help President  Obama get elected. At that time the Democrats of Rossmoor took no active part in helping candidates to be elected.  A friend and I started a club for Obama and set about organizing phone banks in Rossmoor for the President.  This was my first taste of grass roots political organizing.

Then, as President of the Democrats of Rossmoor I ran a large organization.  One mission of the club was to educate our members and as such I helped to secure speakers for our monthly meetings, set up candidate forums and arrange meet the candidate nights. We also engaged our club members in efforts to directly support local candidates. The board of the DOR is a great tem and I am proud to be a part of that team.  I also am a regular writer for the Progressive View column in the Rossmoor news and use this voice to educate and advocate for Democratic causes and candidates.

At present Democratic Clubs do not have a vote at DPCCC meetings.  I would like to see that changed.  I have been active in the DPCC's Club Council which has enabled me to get to know the Presidents and representatives from other local clubs and to share and exchange information with them.  and if elected to the DPCCC I would work to effectively coordinate the work of the DPCCC with  to my own and other local Democratic Clubs.
