Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Good Jobs: My top priority is the economic security of families. I am working closely with large and small businesses and labor to maintain and create local jobs.
  • Safe Neighborhoods: I’ve hired more deputy sheriffs and probation officers, increased rehabilitation and re-entry programs, acquired firefighting helicopters and created the emergency notification system (reverse 911).
  • Healthy Families and a Healthy Environment: I’ve improved access to affordable healthcare, strengthened veterans services and elder and child abuse programs, reformed foster care, expanded regional parks, built new libraries, improved air quality, p

Greg Cox is a proven, trusted leader.  He is committed to improving the public safety, health and quality of life for all the families living in our region.  He has initiated and enhanced programs for children, the elderly, foster and adoptive families and those needing access to affordable health care, workforce training and good jobs.

A tireless champion for South County, Greg Cox resides in his hometown of Chula Vista. Both his parents were teachers in local public schools, and he too became an educator after earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from SDSU.  Greg sees his job as an opportunity to serve the people in the vibrant, ethnically diverse neighborhoods and communities where he grew up, and where he raised his own children.  A devoted husband and father of two grown daughters, he knows what it takes for families to thrive and has established an extraordinary track record of delivering for all the people who elected him.  He has had a hand in creating an array of major amenities all over the southern part of the County, including three vast regional parks, Waterfront Park on the San Diego Bay embarcadero, new libraries and community centers in Bonita, Lincoln Acres and Imperial Beach, the Bayshore Bikeway, the Living Coast Discovery Center, the Olympic Training Center, and projects running the gamut from the development of the Chula Vista Bayfront to the Chollas Creek Watershed Restoration.

Supervisor Cox has an outstanding reputation for leading non-partisan local government in a way that is respectful of all view points and brings people together to work in a collaborative way that is in the best interest of all of us.  He was elected and re-elected as a Chula Vista City Councilman and Mayor, and elected five times as First District Supervisor in San Diego County by large majorities of the voters.  He has had strong support from business, labor and grassroots community organizations.  An accomplished leader, he is the only elected official in California to have been elected by his peers (Mayors and City Councilmembers across the State) as President of the League of California Cities and by Supervisors statewide as President of the California State Association of Counties, where he still serves on the Executive Board.

He bolstered the interests of the people in his district through his leadership on the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority and the California Coastal Commission.  That key appointment by the Speaker of the California Assembly makes him uniquely positioned to give San Diegans a voice in the effort to preserve public access to the California coastline and protect natural resources and create parks, trails and bike paths throughout the state, just as he has done in our region.

Greg Cox has never viewed local government as a rung on a ladder to another level of office.   He chose local government as his calling and is sharing his expertise and enthusiasm for what it can accomplish through his role as President of the Institute for Local Government.

Since he became Supervisor, San Diego County government has been consistently recognized nationally as one of the best managed counties in America. Its AAA bond ratings mean that taxpayers do not have money wasted on interest payments that can go directly to public services.  He initiated the capital improvement plan that led to aggressive replacement of worn out buildings with new, environmentally sound facilities that are welcoming to the public and generated thousands of good paying construction jobs.

He has made County government one we can all be proud of. By insisting on using only one-time money for one-time expenses and applying good common sense to budgeting, the County is now able to fund infrastructure needs, has no deferred maintenance and actually pays cash for large capital projects.

As the first Executive Director of the South County Economic Development Council and a successful businessman himself, Greg knows what is needed to boost the economy so that everyone has access to a good job and a chance to realize their potential through work experience.  He never forgets to honor our courageous veterans and has constantly worked on their behalf through efforts like bringing a Veterans Home to Chula Vista. He is now fighting to create a Memory Care Unit for residents of the home.  Greg Cox always keeps in mind those who struggle with life’s challenges. He has been found speaking directly to the homeless in the streets at 4:00am and at 4:00pm encouraging ex-offenders to turn their lives around through education and rehabilitation.  Equally adept at steering businessmen into making investments in the South County and pitching in with community volunteers at a beach clean-up, Greg Cox continually demonstrates the leadership we trust.
