Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Provide every child the best education by providing a seat at the table for parents and teachers where decisions are made to close the achievement gap.
  • Stop the bullying in schools by having more parent involvement in our schools and hiring more teachers that reflect the diversity of our student population.
  • Use every tax dollar wisely by reducing administration cost and put more of funds directly into the classroom.

Candidate Statement in the Voter Guide

Summary

As the son of immigrant parents I know how important education is and how it can transform lives. We need partnerships with parents, teachers, and the community to provide the best education for all students.

We need to bring people together, not pull them apart.  Our children deserve it and their future depends on it.

Parents know what their children need.  Teachers work tirelessly to prepare our students to meet the challenges of tomorrow.  Parents and teachers need to have a seat at the table where important decisions are made.  As your county school board member, I will continue to make partnerships, not politics, a priority.  We need to respect parents and teachers and work together in partnership and cooperation to improve our schools.

During my term in office and during the recession, I have voted to balance the budget every year.  I have attended almost all the board meetings and have taken very few trips to conventions.

I have talked with parents during back to school nights and open house to ask how we are doing educating their children.  Spoke with students in small groups to ask how we could better meet their needs.  Spoke with teachers to ask for their advice on improving education programs.   I have taken all this to board meetings to ask staff to look at how we can meet their concerns.

This have resulted in continued improvements of our educational services.  I'm proud that our teachers and staff won nine Golden Bell Awards from the California School Board Association for outstanding educational programs.

As the son of immigrant parents and the first to graduate from college, I know how important education is and how it can transform lives.  As a former teacher in Sacramento City Unified School District, I know the challenges classroom teachers face every day.  As a parent I experienced firsthand how parent involvement makes a difference in my child's education.  And from my experience as a community organizer with housing tenants, a social worker in Sacramento County Children Protective Services, education and social service director with the California Conservation Corps, and currently as a program manager in the California Department of Health Care Services, I know that it takes the entire community to support the education of our children.  These experiences also helped me to be an education leader on this board.

I respectfully ask for your vote to continue to serve you as your community representative on the Sacramento County Board of Education.
