Biografía

A son of Mexican immigrants, Jesús was born in Stockton and grew up in the Sierra Vista neighborhood of South Stockton. He played baseball in the Montezuma Little League and attended Monroe and Hamilton Schools. Jesús was accepted into the TLC (Teaching and Learning Community) program at Franklin High, where he played baseball and was the starting Quarterback for the Yellow Jackets.

Jesús' family roots run deep in the Central Valley. His great-grandfather migrated here every summer in the 1920’s to help finance the construction of his home in Mexico. Later his grandfather would work in the Central Valley as a Bracero. Jesús' father followed in the family footsteps and started a company that trained and managed hundreds of migrant workers for cherry and tomato harvests. Jesús spent his summers working for the family business.

The first in his family to attend college, Jesús enrolled at Sacramento State University, would go on to be Student Body President and graduate with a Bachelors degree in Philosophy. After college, Jesús was hired by, a national Latino organization looking to improve quality of life for Latinos, to focus on economic development and education issues.

As a parent with children in charter schools, Jesús saw charter schools as the solution to the lack of choices parents have in inner-city neighborhoods. He witnessed students in the inner city receiving excellent academic instruction, despite the arguments they lacked any opportunities.

This eye opening experience led Jesús to join the team at StudentsFirst, an educational advocate organization focused on putting the needs of students before those of adults in education. He would later work for the California Charter School Association, educating parents and students about the barriers to education reform and what they could do to change the system that was failing kids across the state.

Today, Jesús has founded Andrade Strategies, a consultancy focused on growing educational opportunities and economic development in South Stockton.

Jesús met his wife Andrea, a UOP Graduate, right after high school on the Miracle Mile during a festival. They have two boys and a daughter. He attends mass at St. Linus, where he was baptized and his boys were baptized.
