Biografía

I am Kevin L. Alston but I prefer “KL,” it’s my stand-up comedy stage name.  I have been doing stand-up comedy since I was 19 years old and I think it prepared me for the many spontaneous moments afforded teachers.  I received by BA in Communication from San Diego State University, my MBA from the University of Phoenix and currently working on an DBA at Grand Canyon University .  I taught in Tokyo for six years as an English and Communication instructor.

Progressive Educator, devoted to excellence in teaching and learning, life-long education; experience teaching a variety of courses in the business management discipline, including online, hybrid and face-2-face to a diverse population of students; with leadership skills and commitment to shared governance that will support academic goals of any institution.

Business Professional, with 20 years of experience in international business, management and administration, including increasing responsible supervisory and leadership assignments.  Career highlights include marketing, global logistics management, foreign correspondent, newspaper editor, preschool owner, comedy clubs owner. In addition, I facilitate online courses design and instruction, in class student advising, within the community student recruitment, outreach activities, in an administrative capacity I plan budgeting, I build business community partnerships and am bi-lingual English-Japanese.

My teaching and administrative role with the community college has provided me with countless opportunities for professional development training and enrichment which is needed by teachers, administrators, and staff to use technology tools within the teaching and learning environment. As a faculty member of business, I participate in online professional development to acquire instructional strategies and pedagogy necessary to facilitate learner-centered, standards-based curricula that integrate the use of technology tools. Also in my role as an instructor at the community college level, I participate in professional development opportunities necessary to advance the technical skills required to foster online communication among students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members. As an administrator I participate in professional development to acquire the tools and skills needed to analyze student achievement data.
