Ray Sehorn came to Oroville in 1969 to teach 6th grade at Stanford Avenue School, and has made his home in Oroville since 1979. He received his BA and MA degrees from Chico State and retired in 2000 after a 36 year career in public education, 31 of those as a classroom teacher, site principal, and district administrator in the Oroville City Elementary School District (OCESD). One of his duties as Director of Special Projects at OCESD was serving as district liaison to local and county organizations that focused on youth. He was twice named Butte County School Administrator of the Year.

He has been active as a volunteer in the OUHSD since 1977 when he began doing public address announcing for LPHS and OHS track and field meets. After 40 years, he continues to volunteer at home meets. He also announced home football games for LPHS, OHS, and Butte College for over 20 years. He loves sports! Since 2009, he has been a member of the OUHSD Hall of Fame committee, serving as its chairman since 2010 and emcee for every dinner/induction event since 2009. He has also been involved in the Fellows Club Top Ten Scholastic Achievement Awards Night since 1999, serving as emcee since 2003.

Ray loves Oroville; served on the State Theatre Advisory Committee in the early 1980's and is currently a commissioner on the City of Oroville Park Commission. He is a member of the Butte County Historical Society, Saint Thomas Church, and a member and past president of the Fellows Club of Oroville. Over many years, he has served on numerous local and county committees dealing with K-12 students, the last being the Children's Health Alliance of Oroville.

He was inducted into both the Butte College Athletic and the Northern California Sports Association Halls of Fame for his volunteer service to athletics at Butte College and the Northern Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (NSCIF).

Ray has no ties to OUHSD other than his volunteer work there. He has no agenda other than that he wants what is best for every child in the Oroville area. His 47 year track record in Oroville is proof of his ongoing support and dedication to children of all ages.

Filosofía política

Since my junior year of high school, I have spent my entire life teaching, coaching, and working with children ages 5-18 in the communities of Willows, Wheatland, and Oroville. The Oroville community has been exceptionally good to me for many, many years and it is time for me to give back!
