A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools. What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Respuesta de Daniel A. Gomes:

My plans include making in person presentations before county-wide civic organizations, parent-teacher associations, student bodies and classes, and church groups.

Filosofía política

The value of an education is so taken for granted that politicians running for office often make generalized statements that they know no one will disagree with. I have done it myself. But, in my ballot candidate statement, I have pointed to twelve policies and programs that I support and that each of us can take some part in carrying out in the immediate future. Parents can provide a home life that is respectful of the value of education and helps their children in achieving... their educational goals. Students can acquire the habits of being on time, being courteous in, and attending every class. District board members and superintendents can, within budget, provide teachers with support by retaining class size reductions, providing behavior modification training for disruptive students, and for those students who do not plan to attend college, expanding Career Technical Education offerings.

Of all those items, the one that I consider most important is the establishment of high schools dedicated to science and technology. Today there are such high schools scattered throughout the nation, but none so far in Contra Costa. These STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ) are so important that they may save our country from becoming dangerously irrelevant at some point in the future. To do our part in preventing this from happening should be our immediate concern. We can do this by seriously considering their establishment, regardless of sponsorship, either public or private. A mixture public and charter is possible, extending from middle school to community college and either district or county wide should be considered.

It will be a distinct personal privilege and high honor if you will reelect me to help out in establishing Contra Costa County's first STEM high school. Thank you very much for your support. - Daniel Gomes
