I spend my time not just on school committees, but in the classroom and on campus, engaging with students, parents, teachers and staff in a way that only a parent with children in the schools can.

I practiced law in San Francisco for more than 12 years before staying home with my children. I have proven leadership experience in the community, serving as Parents’ Club President for Glorietta, board member for EFO, commissioner on the Parks & Rec Commission for the City of Orinda, K-5 parent representative on the Fiscal Advisory Committee for OUSD, and auction chair for Children’s Health Guild. I am a critical thinker, great listener, and a collaborative leader.

Candidate Statement

2016 Candidate Statement by Hillary Weiner

I am the proud mother of three children attending Orinda schools (2nd, 4th and 6th grades). My family moved from San Francisco to Orinda for the academic excellence provided by Orinda schools. My mission is to ensure the quality of our schools remains at the highest level for all kids in Orinda.

My priorities are:

1.    Innovation. We have a new superintendent and we need new Board members with fresh ideas to innovate our schools and classrooms. I will develop strategic plans to enhance the classroom experience for all Orinda students and teachers.

2.    Fiscal Responsibility. Orinda schools receive significant funding from the community, parents’ clubs, and Educational Foundation of Orinda (EFO) to fill the gap between State funds and the district’s needs. I will prioritize fiscal responsibility and smart use of all financial resources.

3.    Strong Community Partnership. Orinda schools benefit from a collaborative education process with parents’ clubs, EFO, administrators, teachers, and the community at large. I will promote transparency and communication between all stakeholders to strengthen this partnership.

I have extensive community volunteer experience, including Glorietta Elementary School Parents’ Club Co-President, EFO executive board member, OUSD’s Fiscal Advisory Committee’s K-5 parent representative, and Parks & Recreation Commissioner for the City of Orinda. I will draw upon my community volunteer experience, prior career as an attorney, and full-time role as a mother of three current Orinda students, to bring balanced, innovative, collaborative leadership to the Orinda School Board.

I respectfully ask for your vote.
