Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Enrich our students' learning experience by continuing to introduce new curricula, creating flexible and innovative learning environments that encourage collaborative learning, and fostering professional development opportunities for teachers.
  • Keep our schools safe and strong, beginning with repairs and improvements promised by Measure V (school bond); promote programs that foster students' social and emotional well-being; and responsibly manage our limited financial resources.
  • Increase community involvement by regularly communicating District's goals and accomplishments, and maintaining transparent decision-making process. I pledge to listen to all concerned parties and reach decisions that benefit all our students.

Biografía

My family has lived and been actively involved in the Moraga community since 1990.  Our two children obtained an excellent education at Moraga's elementary, intermediate and high schools, so I appreciate the importance of our local public schools.  I now have the time and opportunity to give back to the schools by serving on the School Board, contributing my experience, exercising independent judgment, and helping to achieve the District's goals and challenges.  I devoted my 30+ year legal career to the development and advocacy of sound public policy.  I am an attorney, and bring that background, perspective, understanding of state regulation, and consensus-building skills to the Board's decision-making process.  Since being appointed to the Moraga Board, I have assumed a leadership role by 1) serving as co-chair of the Yes on Measure V (school improvement bond) campaign committee, and 2) representing Moraga on the Contra Costa County School Boards Assn., and that group's legislative committee, which advocates for policies that will benefit Moraga schools.

Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools. What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Respuesta de Richard Severy:

The Moraga School District periodically provides updated financial reports that disclose all funding sources, including the amount of funds obtained through several state and federal programs.  It is essential that the District (1) continues to be transparent, and that it regularly provide pertinent financial information to the public through various means; and (2) periodically conduct meetings for parents (such as one held on September 21) to explain the District's goals and priorities (the Local Control Accountability Plan), describe what the District is doing to achieve its objectives, and invite public input into that process.
