Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Foster educational excellence with advanced learner strategies, differentiated instruction and hands-on learning throughout the district.
  • Increase opportunities for high-level career technical education including computer programming and robotics.
  • Maintain fiscal viability by meeting financial obligations.

Monterey Institute of International Studies, now Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey Master's of Business Administration, International management with an emphasis on cross-cultural communication (1986)
University of the Pacific Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Double majors in French and Political Science (1982)

I believe we need a parent’s voice on the Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education (SRCS) and I am currently the only candidate who is a SRCS parent.  I bring twelve years of experience as a parent volunteer in our schools and on district committees; in addition, I presided as president of the parent organizations at three of the schools my children have attended plus currently serve as president of the Performing and Fine Arts Committee at Maria Carrillo High School and am a member of the ELAC. Throughout these experiences, I have witnessed first hand the powerful learning experiences that should be available to every child in our district.  Having served for a number of years on the Board of the California Association for the Gifted, I also had the opportunity to see how excellent educational standards are the norm in districts with similar demographics to Santa Rosa (e.g., in Oceanside, California) as well as districts with even greater challenges (e.g., El Paso, Texas.). My Master’s of Business Administration emphasized cross-cultural management and built on my innate understanding of how organizations and communities must value and include all cultures.

As one of two parents to serve initially on the Local Control Funding Formula task Force, I collaborated with the educators on the committee to evaluate and assimilate the data available on the LCAP target populations and then identified ways to address their most significant needs. I also served on the District Advisory Committee and SUN Network that sought community feedback on the LCAP.  There was much in the plan of which we as a district can be proud, especially hiring college and career counselors in all five of our comprehensive high schools and family engagement facilitators to work with second language learners' families.

I have served on the Advisory Committee of the Santa Rosa Accelerated Charter School (SRACS) since 2012.  SRACS recently received a National Blue Ribbon award from the United States Department of Education, recognizing it as one of the outstanding schools in the United States.  Since 2009 I have advocated for this learning model to be spread throughout the SRCS District.  As a board member I would support any initiative to do so.
