Olga Diaz is a life-long California resident. She was first elected to the Escondido City Council in 2008, re-elected in 2012. She is a homeowner, mother of four, wife of a retired Escondido police Lieutenant and best selling crime fiction author, and an active member of the Escondido community. Olga is the first Latina ever elected to the Escondido City Council.

First in her family to attend college, Olga received a BSC in accounting from Santa Clara University. She has worked in the fields of public accounting, data analysis and research and owned a small business for ten years. She currently works at Palomar Community College as the Director of Student Success & Equity.

Olga understands the needs of a diverse community. She champions environmental and social justice issues with an academic approach that impresses even those who disagree with her. She has been instrumental in building support for urban renewal projects such as the Escondido Creek Trail restoration. She embraces the City’s agricultural heritage and supports the reintroduction of vineyards to Escondido’s economy.

Olga is passionate about Escondido and dedicated to improving opportunities for local business and community groups. She is a founding member of the Route 78 Rotary Club, a past member of the Escondido Sunrise Rotary Club. She previously served on the CSU San Marcos President’s Advisory Committee as well as the San Diego Union Tribune Latino Advisory Board. In 2014, Olga was selected by the UT for the Latino Champions Civic Leader Award as well as the San Diego County Democratic Party Legislator of the Year award.

She currently serves on the Escondido Creek Watershed Alliance, the San Dieguito River Park Joint Powers Authority and is an alternate to San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox on the California Coastal Commission.  Olga recently joined the Board of Directors for the Voice of San Diego, a non-profit investigative journalism outlet.
