Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Fiscal Management--We must rebuild our budget reserves while the economy is good. We should also pay off our pension liability for long term savings.
  • Neighborhood Infrastructure--We must keep up with street maintenance, sidewalks where residents want them, and other improvements to make our city safer and more walkable.
  • Downtown Revitalization--We must continue our progress in making our city center a beautiful place where people want to spend their time as well as their money.

George Gastil and his wife Janet have raised three sons in Lemon Grove.  George has served our community as a school board member and as a city council member.  In addition to serving in local government, George also teaches History at SDSU and Grossmont College.

George was a volunteer in our local public schools before he won election to the Lemon Grove School Board in 1998.  During his ten years on the school board, George helped the district stay healthy through California's two budget crises. During his time on the board, the district cut administrative costs in order to devote more money to classroom teaching. The district also used creative methods to get families more involved in raising student achievement

In 2008 George won election to the Lemon Grove City Council.  He played a key role in helping our city maintain essential services during the recent recession.  George has been a strong advocate for revitalizing our downtown, while also paying close attention to our neighborhood parks and infrastructure.  Public safety continues to be the city's top budget priority, and George has been actively engaged with our law enforcement and emergency services personnel. George has also represented his city on the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Board and on the East County Economic Development Council (ECEDC).

During his eight years on the Council, George has worked closely with his colleagues to help make Lemon Grove a great city.  George makes a point of learning from every experience.

Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of San Diego (1)

What is the most significant challenge facing the City of Lemon Grove, and if you are elected, what steps will you take to address it?
Respuesta de George Gastil:

Our biggest challenge is to fund all of the city's budget priorities, including public safety, neighborhood infrastructure, and park improvements, while also building up our budget reserve so that we will be ready when times are not so good.  The costs associated with public safety personnel have been increasing faster than city revenues.  Our city staff was cut dramatically during the recession and we will need to continue to run a remarkably lean operation.  In the coming years we will need to review our budget priorities, while also considering possible ways to raise more revenue.  Using the newly created Community Advisory Council (CAC), we can invite a diverse range of active residents to examine our budget with fresh eyes and make suggestions.
