Executive Committee, Habitat for Humanity EB/SV (2011–2014)

I’m running on my belief that leadership in education should be based on an understanding of what happens in the classroom, what students need to succeed, and what support can be provided.  I want to help the District by listening and collaborating with other board members to act on our children’s behalf as best I can.

As the candidate with the most extensive experience in real life governance, policy matters, data analysis, and practical “hands on” educational experience, I believe that I am the most qualified candidate for the Morgan Hill Unified School District who is committed to serving students and the community.

The Morgan Hill and South San Jose community is an important part of  my family history.  School Board Trustee is an opportunity to give back to my community, and is a role I take seriously.

An open letter to Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers

Thank you for your work, thank you for your organizational endorsement.

From MHFT Endorsed candidate for Trustee Area 6, Albert Beltran Jr.

Dear Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers,

Thank you very much for your organizational endorsement as well as time and resources you have committed to my campaign. This year is more important than ever with so much money coming into MHUSD from outside groups. And with a new school on the horizon and very tight state funding, MHUSD needs someone who brings an understanding of land development and school finance. My 3 years on the Executive Board of Habitat for Humanity, and my current work as an internal auditor of a school district will be an asset. But more importantly, MHUSD needs Trustees who know the daily joys and struggles of the classroom and school environment.

I earned my degrees knowing that if I ever wanted to be a part of the policy making process, I must have classroom experience. During my college career I became a student teacher in a child development center and volunteered during school hours in several classrooms. I completed my work study in afterschool programs in Davis, CA, and spent 6 months as a substitute teacher in Washington DC. I visited Guatemala to volunteer in a school for students with special needs and traveled to Belize and Cuba to visit classrooms with a different cultural purpose. I traveled to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina to support a school district whose buildings had mostly been destroyed, but whose Principals and Teachers remained strong for all of their students.

While I’ve only known Donna Ruebusch for a few months, she is endorsing me along with former Trustees Claudia Rossi and Kathleen Sullivan (whom I’ve known for over 5 years). My work supporting arts education has led to the endorsement from Dr. Lisa Gonzales Schoennauer, President-Elect Assoc. of CA School Admins (ACSA) & Interim Supt. of Lakeside Union SD. Having worked with education policy over the past 6 years, Josephine Lucy, Board President of Cupertino Union SD has given me an enthusiastic endorsement. Mayra Cruz, Trustee San Jose Evergreen Community College District was my ECE instructor 15 years ago and has happily endorsed me. With these strong personal and professional relationships, I can bring the best practices across the county and the state to my decision making.

I’m asking for your personal support for what we will and can do together over the next four years. As much as the endorsement, your personal support through walking, phone calls, and emails to friends in Trustee Area 6 will make a critical difference.

This opportunity to serve the MHUSD community is not simply a personal interest, but one I’ve prepared for throughout my college and professional careers. All candidates are parents and all candidates have some experience supporting teachers, however none bring such an extensive commitment to education and a wide range of relationships in education to draw from. I am honored to have the support of the Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers, and would be honored to have your personal support as well.

Thank you for your service,
Albert Beltran Jr
