Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Fix the broken process of how the city council approaches businesses.
  • Find an alternative to the utility tax, which currently puts an undue burden on those who are least able to pay
  • Find and fund a location for a dog park in Covina

Biografía

I am the third generation in my family to live in Covina. My first job was at the Boy Scout shop on Rowland Ave while attending South Hills High School. I stayed in Covina when attending Cal Poly Pomona, where I earned my BA in Philosophy. I went on to earn my MA in Philosophy at Cal State Los Angeles, where I focused my studies in ethics.

My roots in the community go deep. I spent 13 years going to school in the Covina Valley Unified School District, and my mother still works for the district. I am an Eagle Scout out of the local troop 448, and have found memories of Kelby Park where the troop still meets. I am happy to still call the city home.

More recently I work in sales outside of the city. As a result, I can look at issues facing Covina without conflict of interests in work or investments in the city. My specialty at work is spent on optimizing processes to drive efficiency. This is the area I can bring immediate expertise to the City Council. Currently, the City Council spends far too much time on the wrong issues, leaving important time-critical issues stagnant. Worst of all, addressing squeaky gears when given no choice, but never finding answers to the underlying problems.

Filosofía política

A government should work for all of the people, balancing the will of the majority while protecting monitories rights. On the city level, this means emergency services that protect all citizens, community outreach that reflects all of those who call Covina home, and public programs that reach those who need it most.

For years the City Council has dipped into the gas tax funds to supplement overspending in the general fund. Leaving our roads without the funding for maintenance. This is legal but reserved as an emergency measure. Since it has become a standard practice Covina has now reached the point of many streets needing overhauls. We saw short sighted thinking in the Senior Center. Years of underfunding maintenance resulted in the building needing to be condemned, and now the city’s seniors have been without a building for years. While the process of the City Council is still staggering forward to replace it. To this day the old building still stands unable to be used.

We also saw this when Covina came close to having a dog park. Funding was available, but when a small number of residents didn't want the park ‘in their back yard,’ the project was placed on a back burner and never re-addressed.

It is impossible for any single council member to promise a particular action of the council since they are only 1 vote out of 5. I would instead work hard to clean up the current process that is not working for Covina. I promise to dig deep into the issues, to find the best solution and not just the easiest solution. I won't take from one fund to pay for another, just to leave the City in the same situation. Not being able to take on long term projects and invest in the future.
