Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County (3)

What criteria are most important for voters to use in evaluating judicial candidates?
Respuesta de David D. Diamond:

Background, experience, and training.  As a State Bar Certified legal specialist, I am honoroed to shate this distinction with only 4% of the lawyers in the State of California.

How can courts and judges better assure that all people have adequate access to legal help and the legal system?
Respuesta de David D. Diamond:

Treat each litigant with dignity and equality.  Make sure that each case is treated as if it is the only case on calendar.

Most defendants are held in County jail before trial because they are not able, due to low income or homelessness, to secure bail imposed by the Court at their arraignment.  Does California’s system of imposing bail on defendants need reform?  If so, what would you recommend?
Respuesta de David D. Diamond:

The current changes to the bail system are more than overdue.  New case law requires a Judge to make a full and detailed inquiry about an individual's financial status.  This will allow many to return to their families and places of employment while the court process moves forward and allows for a just resolution for all parties involved.
