Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County (3)

What criteria are most important for voters to use in evaluating judicial candidates?
Respuesta de Onica Valle Cole:
Intellect, experience and passion for justice as evident from their work experience.
How can courts and judges better assure that all people have adequate access to legal help and the legal system?
Respuesta de Onica Valle Cole:

Modify court hours to allow litigants access during non-traditional hours, i.e. evenings and weekends; Provide child care in all court buildings; re-open courtrooms closed during the last fiscal crisis and use of video-conferencing to minimize delays in attending court proceedings.

Most defendants are held in County jail before trial because they are not able, due to low income or homelessness, to secure bail imposed by the Court at their arraignment.  Does California’s system of imposing bail on defendants need reform?  If so, what would you recommend?
Respuesta de Onica Valle Cole:
Yes, we need to reorganize our priorities, for example what is often prosecuted within the City of Los Angeles as a misdemeanor, is often prosecuted as a felony.

Creencias poliza

Filosofía política

  • Passionate regarding Social Justice issues, the theme of my campaign is "Justice for All." Currently taking select cases to identify and pursue personal causes such as the rights of disabled citizens, mental health parity, environmental justice and educational opportunities for special need students and their families.
  • We must address mental health before it demonstrates it power in the form of "lethal dispair.'
