Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Marlo will bring a full service grocery market to the district as we live in a food desert. She will utilize public funds to subsidize this project. Neighborhood beautification, garbage and bulky pick up.
  • Address the Affordable Housing Crisis, implement plan for affordable housing, safety net for emergency rent fund for 3-4 months if someone loses their job. Create pathways to home ownership by putting developer impact fees back to the community.
  • Economic and job opportunities for all tiers of workers in Oakland. Attract and support small businesses. Training programs for youth, and re-entry workers.

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of Oakland (2)

Which of the local Oakland ballot measures do you think is the most critical and why? 1) Eviction controls, 2) Tax on vacant property, 3)  Increased/graduated real estate transfer tax, 4) Cannabis tax, 5) Hotel wages & work requirements, 6) Children’s Initiative.
Respuesta de Marlo Rodriguez:

Increased graduated real estate transfer tax is a fair tax that will lower the tax for properties less that 300K, and raise the tax as property values are increased.

At 300k- 2 million the tax would remain the same at 1.5 %

At 2-5 million the tax would increase to 1.75%

At 5 million or more the tax would be 2.5 %

What can you do as a City Council member to address the issue of homelessness in Oakland?
Respuesta de Marlo Rodriguez:

We need to bring immeadiate sanitation, food, and needle boxes to the encampments. We need to partner with them to discover their needs. We need to work with the County of Alameda, faith based, non-profit organizations, and Veterans Adminitration to bring resources to the homeless. I  would be in favor of overnight parking lots so those living in their cars and RVs can have a safe place to park. The city should have a few designated areas where camping is allowed. I am in favor of more tuff Sheds and utilizing other buildings for temporary shelters. The city needs to implement more affordable housing to stem the trend of people having no place to live. I am also in favor of an emergency rent fund to assist people who unexpectedly lose their job, they can apply for 2-3 months rental assistance.

I will propose a thrift store, retail on the bottom and apartments on top. The community could donate and purchase items. Homeless people can work, and gain work experience, and earn money.

I will propose the creation of a farm. Homeless persons can learn to grow. Fruits and vegetables can be consumed or sold. We could also create a community food pantry where anyone couls get food if needed, without questions.

Filosofía política

We are living in a time where divisive politics is taking root within local, state and national politics. We need leader that unify our communities and not divide us. The real challenge is to look at the rhetoric and decide which candidate has the values to serve our community verses the person who wants to be in office to weild the power for their own or the corporate interests.
