Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of Piedmont (4)

What plans do you have to support the many different populations of Piedmont with city programs and city facilities? And, how do you plan to promote and actively support inclusive practices within city government?
Respuesta de Tim Rood:

The City, particularly the Recreation Department, makes a concerted effort to serve all Piedmonters as well as the surrounding community with its recreational offerings. And of course, all Piedmonters are served by the city's basic services, including outstanding police, fire and paramedic service and well-maintained streets, parks, City buildings and sewers. Prior to and since my election, I have championed inclusive practices in City government, including town hall meetings, televising city meetings whenever possible, and taking an informed, measured and collaborative approach to planning the future of city facilities.

How will you be responsive to citizens and to support and improve citizen involvement in city government?
Respuesta de Tim Rood:

Piedmont benefits from an outstanding and dedicated group of citizen volunteers, including City commissioners and committee members. We also hear regularly from interested members of the public. Prior to and since my election, I have championed inclusive practices in City government, including town hall meetings, televising city meetings whenever possible, and taking an informed, measured and collaborative approach to planning the future of city facilities.

How can and will you mediate between different interest groups in Piedmont, including evaluating how representative the concerns of vocal minorities might be?
Respuesta de Tim Rood:

Any elected official's duties involve balancing responsiveness to community input with the need to maintain or strengthen the City's balance sheet, maintain existing facilities and plan for their long-term future, and compete for and retain quality staff.

How should the city decide whether and how to plan and pay for a new swimming pool or pools? How important is this to you?
Respuesta de Tim Rood:

I've been involved in discussions about the future of the pool since I joined the board of the former Piedmont Swim Club in 2005 and served as the board president during the handoff to City operation, so finding a way to keep a public pool in the heart of Piedmont is very important to me. I'm proud of this Council's open, transparent and collaborative approach to master planning a new aquatics facility for the site that better serves Piedmont's needs. We are doing the same with the Rec building, Veterans Hall, Linda Beach park and Coaches Field. While the City of Piedmont has never used bonds to finance capital facilities, new funding such as a bond measure will be needed for any of these major projects to be realized,

Filosofía política

It’s been a privilege to represent Piedmont on the Council and StopWaste and East Bay Community Energy boards since 2014, and I’m very proud of our progress on the issues I championed as a candidate: fiscal responsibility, environmental leadership, and open, transparent governance. Fiscally, we’ve strengthened the City’s balance sheet through pension refinancing, labor negotiations, LED streetlight replacement, and sewer rehabilitation. Environmentally, we’re implementing our newly adopted Climate Action Plan 2.0, with 100% renewable electricity coming in November through EBCE, and carrying out our Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan with upgraded crosswalks and other safety measures on our busiest streets. We successfully completed the Linda-Kingston Triangle and $2 million renovation of Hampton Park, true public-private partnerships, and are actively planning for the future of facilities including Linda Beach, Coaches Field, the Recreation building, Veterans’ Hall, and the pool through an open, transparent community process.
