I was born and raised amongst the orchards of Santa Clara valley, the third child of an engineer father and a community volunteer/teacher mother. In 1989, as a young woman, I walked into a small house painted pink from top to bottom. I stood in the kitchen looking out at my Del Rey Oaks cul-de-sac and knew I was home.

Today, I stand at the kitchen and know I am still home.

I’ve had the fortune to work and learn from some of the jewels of the Peninsula.

At Chartwell School, I advocated for children who learn differently, and their families.

I learned about the complexities of our local economic engines during the year-long 2010 Leadership Monterey Peninsula course.

As a program manager at a Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) research institute, I understand the difficulty, value and necessity of culture change. I have created multi-million dollar budgets and managed projects including humanitarian disaster relief, rapid innovation, and energy as a national security issue.

Working with world-renowned climate change experts reinforced my decision to green my own life. It made sense to conduct home energy audits, install new windows, insulation, solar panels and edible landscaping.

I became a Master Gardener to understand soil and microclimates and to share that knowledge with others.

When I’m not advocating on behalf of DRO neighbors, I am a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Federal Action Officer at NPS. The programs I developed have provided hands-on research opportunities for over 600 high school, community college and university students. By growing the next generation workforce with NPS world class researchers, my work keeps our country and armed forces safe and on the forefront of innovation.

I hold a B.A. in Human Communications from CSUMB. In recognition of my professional accomplishments, I was awarded the President’s Partnership Award from Hartnell College.

I am a proud member of…

  • Sierra Club
  • Land Watch
  • Citizens for a Sustainable Monterey County
  • Save Our Shores
  • Ecology Action
  • Surfrider Foundation
