Filosofía política

Like parents throughout Huntington Beach, I believe it is my responsibility to ensure that my two young daughters are set up for future success. I am running for the Huntington Beach City School District Board because, as a former elementary educator, as a public charter school board member, and as an attorney with a background in economics, I believe that our schools should prepare all children for tomorrow’s world. Our children deserve excellent schools and the strength of our community depends on them.

I was fortunate to attend excellent California public schools that allowed me to develop the academic skills to pursue a path of higher education and my eventual career. But it wasn’t just academic skills that set me on my path. Without those teachers who helped me to keep going after a setback, who made my classmates and me feel safe and secure at school, and who encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Our children today will graduate into a world in which social-emotional skills and the ability to be determined, resilient, and adaptable will be more important than ever before. To be excellent, our schools must develop these skills-- skills that give children the best shot at success regardless of what the world looks like when today’s kindergarteners become adults. And we must do so in an environment in which all students feel safe and secure.

If elected to the school board, I will ensure that our schools meet this goal. As a parent, an attorney, and a former educator, I will ask tough questions, do my research, and engage in thoughtful debate with fellow board members so that we can address the wide range of issues before the board and maintain the focus on what matters most--our children’s education. Most importantly, I am committed to listening to the thoughts and opinions of all stakeholders so that, together, we can ensure that all of our children receive the best education possible.
