Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Balanced budgets
  • Reduce Pension Liability
  • Secure our schools

In 2009 I retired as President of Pioneer Electronis Mobile Division and after normal retirement activities began to look into running for city council.  Learning that the city at that time suffered from an unsustainable pension liability issue I ran for council and upon election worked with staff to reduce that liability to a goal of 85%.  Today we are at 80% funded.  I also was concerned that a previous council voted to place about 90% of the homes in Mission Viejo into a Very High Fire designation.  This effects insurance rates and resale value of our homes.  After being placed on the Orange County Fire Board of Directors, I immediatley began working on removing this unfair designation.  In less than 6 months I was able to have that poorly advised designation removed for our homes.  Using my private sector background I have been working closely with staff to improve the financial condition of our city to continue programs and improvements while maintaining a balanced budget and at least half of our annual expense budget in reserve for that rainy day.

Filosofía política

My political philosophy is very simple.  Is it neccessary?  What are the underlying facts?  Can we afford it?  I also believe that all programs and costs to the city are reveiwed regularly for efficiency and cost reduction; or elimination.  I have been working the past two years to get a better understanding of the cost to police our city.  It is not as easy as you would believe when you find cost estimates in two seperate line items.  As Mayor I have asked for improved Police presence in our city and our new Police Chief has done a great job of "flying the colors."  We have seen more patrol cars cruising our neighborhoods.  Our Deputies are catching criminals and putting them back in the jails the Legislature have let out of jail.  While concerned about those with addiction and are in Sober Living Homes, I also work to ensure the neighbors are still able to enjoy the quality of life everyone in our city enjoys.  After the Parkland school shooting, I became concerned that our schools are not as protected as they should be.  I began Secure OC Schools that deals with finding the gaps in school security and support bringins solutions to close those gaps.  We have raised over $50,000 towards those efforts.
