Biografía

I was born and raised in Lake County, about four hours south, and I grew up in a rural community. My husband’s family has a long history in Trinidad, having lived here since 1906. We had planned to relocate our family here for years before making it so. After several years of living and having careers in Sacramento, my husband and I made the move to Trinidad just over three years ago, and we are thrilled to raise our family here.

One of the primary reasons we chose Trinidad, in additional to having deep family ties and history in the area, was the quality of the school. I taught school in Sacramento for over 5 years (3rd grade, 4th grade, and middle school Pre-Algebra), and one of our children attended K-2nd in Sacramento. I know from first hand experience just how special Trinidad School is in comparison to other California schools. From the wealth of learning our natural surrounding offer to our gardening and school lunch program and incredibly devoted teaching and support staff, Trinidad School has so much to offer local students. It’s also unique in its interconnectedness as a hub in the community. The school reflects and directly feeds into the community and local economy. A school with poor student outcomes, a damaged culture, or facility issues diminishes the quality of life in a community, impacts the decision of families to make their home in that community and prevents outstanding teachers from seeking employment in the district. In contrast, a school with strong student outcomes, a positive culture, and secure, healthy facilities will continue to draw families and exceptional teachers to our community. I chose to join the Trinidad School Board of Trustees a year ago to because I believe we have a gem in Trinidad School, and I want to ensure that students, teachers, and volunteers feel supported, safe, and able to continue the programs that make Trinidad School the special place it is.
