Van Lan Truong has a lifelong track record of public service as a Vietnamese community organizer and advocate.  Her wealth of experience in community services and violence prevention can attributed in her seven-year role as Boston Mayor Raymond Flynn’s first liaison to the Boston area Vietnamese community.  During her tenure, Van Lan served as the first Vietnamese Liaison in the Boston Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services who handled all aspects of the Greater Boston area’s Vietnamese community relations and had actively participated in the re-election of the 4-term Mayor Flynn.

In 2010, Van Lan Truong relocated to California and wasted no time to establish firm ties with Vietnamese community in the San Jose area and the region’s political leaders. She volunteered as a campaign team member on State Assemblyman Jim Beall’s successful campaign for California State Senator.  Shortly thereafter, she followed up with another successful campaign for Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez.  In the Chavez campaign, she was responsible for organizing and strategizing the San Jose Vietnamese votes.  After Supervisor Cindy Chavez was elected in 2013, Van Lan joined her team as one of the Policy Aides. Van Lan worked on another successful campaign for City San Jose Council Member Ash Kalra for California Assemblymember in 2016.  She is currently a management analyst at Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Service, working on her special assignment for the future Santa Clara County Vietnamese American Services Center.

Van Lan has extensive knowledge in working with the Vietnamese Community in several major cities of the U.S. such as Boston, Washington D.C, Houston, San Jose and Milpitas.  She has served as co-founder of the National Congress of Vietnamese Americans and as founder of the Vietnamese American Women’s League of Massachusetts.  Van Lan has served in the City of Milpitas' s Community Advisory Commission since 2013.  She is passionate about rallying and empowering the Vietnamese community in all aspects for social change and social justice.  Van Lan is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Currently, Van Lan lives in Milpitas, California.
