Biografía

Nora Garcia has been a proud Pomona resident since the age of 3. The daughter of Mexican immigrants, turned U.S. citizens, she was raised to be an active part of the community.

Nora attended San Jose Elementary, Emerson Middle School, and graduated from Pomona High School in 2004 as an AP Scholar with Honors. While attending PHS Nora was active in band, student council, Bright Prospect, varsity cheer, and worked a part-time job.

Nora enrolled in Saint Mary’s College of California in the fall of 2004. While at Saint Mary’s Nora continued to be an active community member. She was a member of several student organizations on campus, but most proudly served with CILSA (Catholic Institute for Lasallian Social Action) where she completed over 300 hours of community service in one year as part of SALT (Social Action Leadership Team), an AmeriCorps affiliate.

Nora became an intern for Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher in the summer of 2006 and then left to study abroad in Oxford, England for the fall 2006 semester. In her senior year, Nora became the inaugural co-leader of the Santiago Community, a residence hall dedicated to faith and community service. Despite her schedule Nora frequently visited her family and friends in Pomona throughout her time at Saint Mary’s.

In 2012, after receiving a BA in English, a teaching credential, and two masters degrees from Saint Mary’s, Nora returned to Pomona to be closer to her family. Since her return, Nora has been a part of the Save Our Pomona Public Library and the One Pomona campaigns as well as the Friends of the Pomona Public Library, serving as the FOPPL treasurer from 2015-2017 and is currently serving as president.

Nora is dedicated to working for residents and with residents to change our city. She has the energy required to drive change, someone who has already demonstrated that commitment to positive community change and civic leadership, someone who values our families, our history, and our diversity, but who also has vision for the future with eyes set on new higher expectations. Nora is running for District 3 Pomona City Councilmember to move our City and our Community into the 21st century, and she is asking you to join the change, she is asking for your support, and she is asking for your vote.

Filosofía política

Slowly but surely change is approaching Pomona. This change is due in part to the renewed energy brought in by the newest members of our City Council. Through these new faces the community has been spurred to once again voice their priorities: a clean city, a safe city, a city they can be proud of. I grew up in Pomona. I know that the residents of Pomona are good, hardworking people trying to make a better life for their families. All we ask is for a clean and safe city in which to do that in.

As a resident, I expect the people who run this City to know and understand that they should be running the City for us and with us. For too long, too many people have been complacent with the status quo. Now is the time to reestablish and restructure that status quo.

I am passionate about this change. I am positive about Pomona. I am dedicated to working for you and with you to change our city. Starting with our expectations. You should expect your representative to be positive about Pomona, to have the energy required to drive change, someone who has already demonstrated that commitment to positive community change and civic leadership, someone who values our families, our history, and our diversity, but who also has vision for the future with eyes set on new higher expectations. I am that person for District 3.   I am running for District 3 Pomona City Councilmember because I believe in the words, "Of the People. For the People. By the People."
