Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • Public safety. Your safety and that of your family, friends and neighbors is my absolute number on priority.
  • Generating additional city revenues through economic development, not higher taxes and fees.
  • Fixing our streets and sidewalks, properly maintaining our parks and resolving our water challenges. Strengthening our partnership with the county so we can work together on practical solutions to our homeless issues.

Biografía

City council candidates are always ready to tell you what they are going to do and I have listed my priorities, but I would like to tell you what I have accomplished so that you will have an idea what I am capable of getting done if elected.

As mayor, I reached out to the Oxnard City Council to initiate an end to the senseless and wasteful practice of the two cities suing each other over economic development matters. This had been going on regularly for over 15 years. Within two months, we had an agreement to stop suing each other and in the process have saved both Ventura and Oxnard taxpayers hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars since that time.

As a council member, I lead the charge to save the historic Peirano's Market building from the wrecking ball. On a 4-3 vote that building was saved and will remain an important part of our city's history.

As mayor, I was one of the initial participants in the development and ultimate construction of the Kimbel Community Park.

As council member, I played a lead role in the rehab of the historic Casa De Anza aprtment building which today serves Ventura avenue residents as well as serving as the home of the Avenue library.

As council member, I played an early role in getting the state to locate the veteran's home in east Ventura.

As a council member, I played a key role in helping broker the deal that made it possible for Aloha Steakhouse to open in Ventura.  As a result, Aloha Steakhouse has been providing between 65 and 85 jobs for the past 15 years.

As a consultant in 2004, I worked on the deal to bring Jag/Land Rover to the Ventura Auto Center.  To this day, it is the only high line auto manufacturer in the city of Ventura.

As a consultant, I worked to move Subaru from mid-town where they were selling an average of 17 cars a month to to the auto center where they are now sell over 100 cars per month.  That's a hugh sales tax increase for the city's general fund.

I worked for four years as a consultant to move Ventura's Avenue card club to the auto center.  The card club which is the Player's Casino is the largest tax payer per square foot in the city of Ventura.  They contruibute over $2,000,000 a year to the city in taxes.

I list these accomplishments because I hope it shows that I am someone who knows how to get things done and that is exactly what I believe we need on the city council in November.

Filosofía política

My Grandmother taught me early of the benefits of doing everything in moderation.  As a result, I am a political moderate.  I am regsitered as "Decline to state" because I do not want to be pidgeonholed on local or national issues based on an affiliation to either of the major political parties.  I have friends and family members who are both Democrats and Republicans and I get along very well with all of them. The office of Ventura City Council member is a nonpartisian position, so I believe my political affiliation is perfect for the job.  Council members need to do what's best for local residents and leave national party affiliation and politics out of it.

I previously served as a Ventura City Council member and Mayor and I was very successful in developing and gaining consesus with my fellow council members.  That kind of collegial spirit seems to be missing from today's city council and I hope to help bring it back if elected in November. I have usually found that compromise is a good way to break the stalemate and move things forward in a positive way.
