Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de The League of Women Voters North County San Diego (4)

What are the pressing problems of this school district, in your opinion, and what experience do you bring to the Board that will help address these problems?
Respuesta de Lea Wolf:
  • Social and emotional well being of students - Students’ stress levels are at a high, resulting in anxiety, depression, bullying, that ultimately are the cause of school shootings and suicides.  We must ask ourselves what we can do to turn this around. I am convinced that integrating life skills into the core curriculum will bring significant improvement.
  • Class sizes are continuously increasing and there is little time for interaction - We must revisit the way students learn in school. Information must be imparted in smaller and stimulating class settings. We must engage students so information is personalized and relevant.  I’m committed to lowering class sizes so interactions are intimate and stimulatin, integrating character development to strengthen students’ innerselve, increasing the number of counselors available to student, and ensuring special needs students receive quality education
  • Deficit spending - I’m committed to better allocate funds so we can improve the school experience of all students by evaluating and reallocating funds responsibly, instituting check and balances and instilling a culture of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability
  • I have extensive experience on child centered issues.  I have created many start ups focused on students well being.  I also have extensive experience in the financial world.  I am not afraid to speak up on controversial issues.
What is your view of charter schools?
Respuesta de Lea Wolf:

I am a big supporter of charter schools.

Question 3

Should the district curb its school choice initiatives (for students who are not in charter schools), so that more students stay in their neighborhood schools? Why or why not?

No se proporcionó respuesta.
Are there school discipline strategies or behavioral support programs that you find appealing alternatives to exclusionary or punitive discipline? If so, which ones, and why?
Respuesta de Lea Wolf:

I am a firm believer in resporative justice.  I believe that students at this age have a big opportunity to learn from their mistakes and flourish in the future.  I don't think that one mistake should define them.  It's about doing a community project relevent to their mistake where they can learn and not make the same mistake again.  At the end of the day, students should always get a second chance with guidance and compassion.
