Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de KPBS and the League of Women Voters San Diego (3)

Do you support increasing housing density in National City? What other options might there be for increasing the City's supply of affordable housing?
Respuesta de Daniel Perez:

I do support increasing the housing density in National City.  However, before any new development we need to consider the following: rezoning, traffic flow to accomidate the increase in motorist, multi-use development.

Do you advocate any changes to National City's current policies regarding recreational and medical cannabis businesses? Please explain.
Respuesta de Daniel Perez:

National City is losing more revenue to online sales and business closing their doors.  We need to explore new industries and business models that will bring in revenue.  the cannabis industry has proven to generate revenue and should be taken into consideration for future growth.

Do you believe that the National City Community & Police Relations Commission has adequate independence, authority, and resources to provide effective civilian review when there are allegations of officer misconduct? What changes, if any, do you think should be made?
Respuesta de Daniel Perez:

CPRC needs change and resources.  NCPD has a been looked at very closely this year and I believe the CPRC, if working with the NCPD, can help in bettering the public perception.

Preguntas de KPBS (2)

Are you in favor of the National City residential rent control ordinance, Measure W, that is on the November 2018 ballot? Why or why not?
Respuesta de Daniel Perez:

No on W.  This is a poorly written proposition that will hurt both the tenants and landlords.  Rent will increase when National City is among the lowest in rental prices in the county.

Do you support any specific projects to promote economic activity in National City? If so, who are the proponents of these plans, and why do think that the City should invest time and resources in them?
Respuesta de Daniel Perez:

National City needs to become a "business friendly" city.  National City is known to be difficult to open up a new business due to long waits in permit and approval process, expensive, and not helpful.  We need to work on changing this stigma in order to bring new projects and promote growth.  I plan on work dilligently with staff, the Chamber, and council to make this happen.
