Measure Eliminating City Council and Mayoral Term Limitations
The City Council of the City of Menifee (“City Council”) has placed before the voters the question whether to eliminate term limitations that are currently applicable to City Council members and the Mayor of the City of Menifee
The Menifee Municipal Code currently specifies that any person that has served two successive terms or eight consecutive years as a councilmember shall be ineligible to serve in that office again until an intervening two year period has elapsed. In a separate section, the Menifee Municipal Code currently imposes the same term limitations on the office of the Mayor.
If this Measure J is adopted, the term limitations imposed by the Menifee Municipal Code shall be repealed and, as a result, there shall be no limitations on the number of consecutive terms that a person may serve as a member of the City Council, or as the Mayor, of the City of Menifee.
A “Yes” vote is a vote in favor of the repeal of the term limitations that currently apply to City Council members and the Mayor of the City of Menifee. A “No” vote is a vote to retain the existing term limitations applicable to City Council members and the Mayor of the City of Menifee.
This measure will be approved if it receives a simple majority of “Yes” votes.
